WELCOME

I am a UKCP registered* professional Counsellor and Psychotherapist and a qualified couple counsellor with many years' experience in full-time private practice. I work with both individuals and couples for either an agreed fixed period of time or on an open ended basis.

My East Surrey practice in Merstham is within easy reach of Reigate and Redhill town centres and easily accessed via the M25 and M23 motorways from surrounding areas.

I offer counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples and work primarily with adults who are experiencing some form of upheaval and distress in their lives. I provide a safe, supportive and confidential space for you to explore these issues more freely with a professionally trained therapist at times when it may feel difficult to talk openly with family or friends. As well as offering practical support, I look at problems not only from the perspective of personal history, but also from a transpersonal perspective. In this way, difficulties can be understood not just as things which have to be overcome, but as the symptoms of something needing to be integrated. The process of counselling and psychotherapy fosters the natural inclination in every person towards greater wisdom, tolerance and a deepening capacity for knowing who we are that is fundamental to a healthy and thriving adult life.

"It all depends on how we look at things, not how they are in themselves."
C.G. Jung

At its best, psychotherapy fosters attitudes of empowerment and humility, both towards self and others. A relationship is created not only between two people, we also form a relationship with ourselves. It is the basis of our self esteem, the internal value we give to ourselves which determines our ability to function in the external world. Sometimes, however, our usual strategies for coping become inadequate and drain our energy, leaving us feeling isolated and confused. I am experienced in helping clients explore a wide variety of life issues, including low self esteem, anxiety, stress, loss and bereavement, depression, addictive behaviours, relationship breakdown, sexual concerns and many more.

I also have experience of working with more subtle feelings that are difficult to define but seem to call for self reflection when, for example, we experience a loss of meaning in life, low motivation for life or a yearning for greater fulfilment in our daily tasks and our interpersonal relationships.

When working with couples I help them explore the destructive behaviours that can feel overwhelming and painful when the harmony within their relationship is disrupted. It may be that an end to a particular way of relating is indicated, or it may be that the relationship itself is no longer serving the individuals within it. My aim is to support the couple in understanding the dynamics beneath these patterns and restore them to a more natural rhythm where feelings of a deeper and richer connection between the couple are potentially co-created.

I practice holistically, which means that I work with the whole person – the body, feelings, behaviour patterns and the transpersonal, as well as the wider cultural context within which the person and/or couple perceives their difficulties.

My consulting rooms are located in:

East Surrey - situated within the village of Merstham, a short distance from Reigate and Redhill town centres, within easy access from the M25 and M23 motorways and a few minutes walk from the local mainline station for rail commuters. Unrestricted roadside parking is available for motorists.

The first step is to arrange an appointment for an initial consultation. This will be an opportunity to meet and discuss your concerns to see whether and how I might best be able to support you. If you wish to continue then we will discuss session times and the way forward. If you decide not to continue I may know of other resources that would be better suited to your needs.

I can be contacted on the numbers below. All lines of contact are confidential, and both phone lines have voicemail.
